The First Christian Church Concert Series is presenting the dynamic Classical Brass of Denver with Frank Perko, organist. They’ll be performing numbers for brass quintet, solo organ, and brass and organ from the Baroque to the present, from Bach to Brubeck. A free will offering will be taken. Members of the Classical Brass are Rick Pelletier, trumpet, principal trumpet with the Littleton Symphony; Roberta Asmus Goodall, trumpet, member of the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra; Teresa Carrol, horn, principal horn for the Arapahoe Philharmonic Orchestra; Will Scharen, trombone, member of the Cheyenne and Wyoming Symphonies and music faculty of Regis University; and Alan Harvey, tuba, principal tuba for the Cheyenne and Arapahoe Symphony Orchestras.
Frank Perko III, organist, is the Director of Music and Arts at First Plymouth Congregational Church in Englewood, a regular performer on the Mighty Wurlitzer organs in the Denver Paramount Theater and the Organ Grinder Pizza Restaurant, and an active concert organist around the country.
Numbers to be performed will include: Eugene Gigout’s Grand Chœur Dialogué for organ and brass; J.S. Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor “Dorian” BWV 538 for organ and Nun danket alle Gott; Revecy venir du Printans by Claude Le Jeune; the first movement of Josef Rheinberger’s Organ Concerto No. 1 arranged for organ and brass; George Gershwin’s Three Preludes, arranged for brass quintet; Quintet by Michael Kamen; Blue Rondo a la Turk by Dave Brubeck; Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings; and movements from Suite for Organ and Brass Quintet by Craig Phillips.
