Event Description

Wendy Woo

A special concert with two of the Colorado music scene’s best female singer songwriters.

As Colorado’s music scene has exploded over the past few years, one of its mainstays has been Wendy Woo. Her energetic personality, musical skills, and spirited songwriting have made her a media and fan favorite and have taken her to venues across the country including the Fox Theater and Red Rocks in Colorado, the Bitter End and the Living Room in New York, the Hotel Cafe in Los Angles, the Bluebird Café in Nashville, Sweetwater in Mill Valley, and Eddie’s Attic in Decatur, Georgia. Anticipating the rise of the independent artist, Woo formed her own corporation, Woo Music. Through that she runs her own record label (eight albums), publishing company, booking agency, and management company.

Nina Storey:

Few artists are willing to bare it all. However, the ones who do tend to leave a long lasting impression. On her brand new album, Think Twice, Nina Storey doesn't hold anything back. The soulful and sexy Los Angeles chanteuse delivers honest and hypnotic songs steeped in classic soul pop. Elegantly stripped, Think Twice is as powerful as she is provocative.

In early 2012, the singer and songwriter entered the studio with renowned producer and founding member of Low Stars, Chris Seefried (Counting Crows, Fitz and the Tantrums, Jay Nash, Dia Frampton, Haley Reinhart, Brendan James). They had a very distinct sound in mind for the music and instantly tapped into it. When Seefried first heard Storey's music, he was blown away by the power of her voice and the uniqueness of her songwriting style.

"I like to call it Future Retro", smiles Storey of her style. "It's got the sensibility of an old-school soul record from the likes of Eartha Kitt, Diana Ross and the Ronettes with a modern, Bruno Mars pop edge. This is the culmination of my writing for two years. We really focused on nuances and subtlety, groove and melody and the songs expanded as a result. The record has all the ferocity of my live performances, plus a focus on unforgettable melody.”

Storey is no stranger to making audiences move. She's performed alongside the likes of Keb'Mo', Etta James, Sara Bareilles, Ani DiFranco, Sarah McLachlan, The Rescues, Shawn Colvin, DeVotchKa, and many more. She has also been featured on CNN Showbiz Today, MTV Online and Rolling Stone.com. With 35k albums sold independently, her voice also enchanted fans so much they helped her make this record through support on PledgeMusic. That's the kind of response she elicits from those who experience her.

There's also a cinematic side to her writing. It's instantly apparent on Think Twice and her output at large. She's had numerous film and television placements including The Broken Hearts Club: A Romantic Comedy and Stay Cool on the big screen, and Days of Our Lives, So You Think You Can Dance, Girlfriends, Ford Fiesta, Hyundai and many more on the small screen.

Nina’s unique sound and powerful voice has been warmly and enthusiastically embraced by press and media alike. Listed in the "20 To Watch In 2012" by the LA Examiner, Nina will be touring nationally this summer in support of Think Twice. In describing Storey’s vocal prowess, People Magazine wrote, "With a voice like hers, pyrotechnics are redundant," while Music Connection proclaimed, "By far one of the most powerful and expressive voices in the business today, combining poignant storytelling with memorable melodies." The Santa Cruz Sentinal described Nina’s music as “...Half Janis, Half Alanis, three parts Virgin Mary, one part Dirty Harry.”
