Events in Cripple Creek

Event: Narrow Gauge Train Ride at Cripple Creek & Victor Narrow Gauge Railroad, Fri, Aug 1 10:00a

The first train leaves the station at 10 a.m. and trains depart approximately every 40 minutes until sometime after 5 p.m. (based on demand) A trip on the Cripple Creek & Victor Narrow Gauge Railroad, reveals scenic wonders around every curve as century-old steam locomotive transports you back to the gold mining days of Cripple Creek & Victor, Colorado. A treat for railroad and history buffs, kids and the whole family. The locomotive is a 15 ton iron horse of the 0-4-0 type typical of the early day steam engines so important to the winning of the west. The track goes south out of Cripple Creek, past the old Midland Terminal Wye over a reconstructed trestle, past many historic mines and terminates near the deserted mining camp of Anaconda, then returns back to Cripple Creek. Trains leave every 40 minutes from mid-May thru mid-October from our 1894 depot and gift shop at the head of historic Bennett Avenue in Cripple Creek. Take this is spectacular 45-minute trip of beautiful colors and fascinating experiences the old steam engine with its pillaring smoke, sounds of steam and working steel all the effects familiar to the hardy miners who rode the Midland Terminal roadbed when Cripple Creek District's population approached over 50,000. This unique four-mile round-trip includes an interesting and educational narration on the rich history only a dynamic gold town could produce. Event: Guys and Dolls at Butte Theater, Fri, Aug 1 7:00p

This show runs July 4-Aug. 30 and rotates at 1 and 7 with the melodrama The Spoilers - see website for tickets and schedule. Guys and Dolls is a sure bet that soars with the spirit of Broadway! Set in vivid, mid-20th century New York City and buoyed by a Frank Loesser score that is among the most immortal works in theater history. Guys and Dolls is a toe-tappingly fun and romantic fable about gambling men and the strong-willed women who love them.

Event: The Spoilers Melodrama & Olio at Butte Theater, Fri, Aug 1 7:00p

This show runs June 27-Aug. 28 and rotates at 1 & 7 with the musical Guys and Dolls - see website for tickets & schedule. When miner Roy Glenister & his partner Dextry have their claim jumped, they set out for justice & vengeance against the men who stole their mine. A thrilling tale of corruption & greed during the early days of the great Alaskan gold rush, this classic American melodrama is filled with action, romance & intrigue. This melodrama will be followed by a hilarious summer olio.

The next PIKES PEAK OPRY SHOW AND DINNER is September 29th at the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame. Owner and band leader Ronnie Cook was with the Flying W Wranglers for 13 years and now continues to entertain in a different venue. The BBQ meal is excellent.
