The next PIKES PEAK OPRY SHOW AND DINNER is September 29th at the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame. Owner and band leader Ronnie Cook was with the Flying W Wranglers for 13 years and now continues to entertain in a different venue. The BBQ meal is excellent. I swear I will NEVER figure out on what reasoning (or lack of it) the GT Fresh Ink editors use to decide which Fresh Ink insert to the GT for Wednesday's in what part of town.

Two weeks ago I wrote an illustrated article on the 'Forgotten Civil War' battle of Gorieta Pass that took place exactly 150 years ago, while the original 'Colorado City' (Now "Old Colorado City") was the Territorial Capital, and the First Regiment marched right down Colorado Avenue enroute to New Mexico.

So it had GREAT relevance to today's Old Colorado City and the Westside which lived through that War.

So with wierd reasoning by the Fresh Ink Editors they published it NOT in the 'South' Gazette Wednesday which goes to GT readers on the Westside  but in the 'East' side, which didn't even exist during the Civil War. And Palmer's Colorado Springs was nowhere in sight.

If an Eastsider had not called me and congratulated me for the 'interesting' article he got two days ago, I would never had even known it got published anywhere.

Am I just wasting my time trying to educate locals about stuff about Colorado History the schools never teach them?

For all the upgrading and changing of the way Fresh Ink operates, some of it is a deep dark mystery. For example, its editors decided to publish in the Wednesday print pages of the Gazette my second Civil War article. But it was in something called Freshink South - whatever that means. Even though I write these Colorado City and the Civil War stories in the OLD COLORADO CITY Freshink 'Community' - and that appears in something named 'Freshink North' (I didn't think the westside/oldcolorado city was 'north' of anything.

 

Then one was put in Freshink North, and I got an email pointing me to it. And it was also in my home delivered (westside) paper. So I guess the Westside is Freshink North.

 

Then yesterday I got another email saying that one of my pieces was in 'Freshink South' And I saw it was NOT in the GT I get at home, where the Freshink two pages are called North. So I had to drive from the center of Old Colroado City where I live, south on 8th street almost all the way to Cheyenne road where it deadends, to a 7-11 that sells newspapers, including the GT. I first thumbed through its front section until I saw THAT version was Freshink South - and I saw my story I wrote three columns ago. And bought it.

 

So Freshink North/South and ???, along with Communities one can post in that are named Briargate, Powers, Fountain Valley, and Old Colorado City? Its a real puzzler.

 

While I continue to march, consistently, by writing my Colorado City and the Civil War online in the Old Colorado City section weekly, who knows where they will end up when selected for the print section?

 

Now since I am writing more than the editors will ever put in the two page print section, maybe the GT could just save some ink while helping me educate the city on the totally UNKNOWN local Colorado City involvement in the Civil War that Colorado Springs never went through. They just could point -in all versions of the Print Gazette - to the Old Colorado City Community online section, where anybody could read all of them by just selecting 'VIEW ALL' and they would encounter all I have written to date by scrolling down AND in reverse sequence. They might even learn something, since I am writing them over 2011-2012 matching the War in 1861-1862. I know they will be there a while, for there are postings about the City Council election that were made clear back in February!

 

Ah! But that might be too logical!!!!

Attended the forum tonight for the restaurant association held at the fun and always good Airplane restaurant.  Lisa C was the only District 3 candidate there.  I support our business owners and I know how important tourism is for our city and especially my district 3.  www.electlisac.com

I have always lived in district 3, not Denver and Manitou like my opponent has. I love my community and am not the candidate who believes "what is good for the city is good for district 3". District 3 has specific strengths and challenges a...nd needs someone who knows the neighborhoods and the issues. I have been preparing for this seat for 2 years by becoming educated and developing strong relationships with community leaders and citizens. I am the candidate who has met with experts, gone on tours, sat in meetings, read materials, participated on boards, and has consisently shown interest in City Council for years. Council is not a consolation prize because another seat couldnt be won. If you want someone with strong leadership, common sense, belief in good business practices, and is ethical, your only choice is LISA CZELATDKO.
