Jonathan Colarelli '12, a day student at Fountain Valley School of Colorado, has been named a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist.

On Sept. 14, the officials of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced Colarelli as one of approximately 16,000 students nationwide who earned semifinalist status. Semifinalists have the opportunity to continue in the competition for 8,300 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $34 million. About 90 percent of the semifinalists attain finalist standing, and about half of the finalists win a scholarship.

Colarelli qualified for the program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT) as a junior. All Fountain Valley School juniors take the PSAT. Scholarship winners will be announced in the spring of 2012.

Colarelli is a four-year day student and has made the most of his Fountain Valley School experience. He is a starter on the varsity soccer and basketball teams and is one of the soccer team captains. He's currently taking four Advanced Placement courses and one honors course, and he's a member of the Deans' List and Froelicher Society (academic honor society). Colarelli is also a day student leader and member of both the Gold Key and Varsity Clubs. He has two younger siblings who also attend Fountain Valley School.

Congratulations to Jon!
