Trefa Khoshnaw and her children, Lana Khoshnaw, 12, and kindergartner Lawa Khoshnaw, 6, listen to kindergarten teacher Brandy Fowler explain a shape-fill game Jan. 31 at Evans International Elementary School in Falcon School District 49. The game helps kindergartners pickup concepts related to counting, number recognition and patterns, said Fowler, during math night. Jenny Breeding, International Baccalaureate coordinator, said the school's educators are focused on forging stronger home-school connections. "We want to communicate with parents about what their children are doing in schools," said Breeding. Parents learned about grade-specific teaching techniques that may help their children exceed academic standards in math. "When parents are in school, it communicates to their children how important school is -- the kids get so excited."
