Educators, Parents Focus on Math Skills at Evans International Elementary School

Jose Policarpo watches his daughter, fifth grader Satori Policarpo, 10, sketch a geometric art project Jan. 31 at Evans International Elementary School in Falcon School District 49. Policarpo is stationed at nearby Fort Carson, where he's assigned to 4th Battalion, 42nd Field Artillery, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. Jenny Breeding, International Baccalaureate coordinator, said the school's educators are focused on forging stronger home-school connections. "We want to communicate with parents about what their children are doing in schools," said Breeding. Parents learned about grade-specific teaching techniques that may help their children exceed academic standards in math. "When parents are in school, it communicates to their children how important school is -- the kids get so excited."
