Air Force Capt. Darrell DeLeon, mission commander, 1st Space Operations Squadron, discusses his military service Nov. 15 at Falcon Virtual Academy in Falcon School District 49. The blended learning center was participating in The History Channel's Take a Veteran to School Day, an evening sponsored by Comcast. DeLeon talked about his 24 years of military service, as an enlisted Army soldier and a commissioned Air Force officer. He shared photographs of children in Afghanistan and the hardships of life in Central Asia, as well as explained the day his base was attacked by insurgents and suicide bombers. DeLeon disregarded his personal safety to help save the lives of several injured soldiers, heroic actions that resulted in awards and recognition.
