Thanks, Dave. One of my Associates was set to have a meeting this afternoon with the head of the historical society, and the editor of the Westside Paper. I am sure we are joining 'as we speak' as I was informed during lunch this afternoon here in M…

I agree! :) I moved to the Springs from Omaha ... it was pretty flat, too! At first I felt like the mountains were "in the way" of my seeing the sun fully set, but now I love them! :)

Aimee,
Sorry to hear about your situation but want to say I think you'll love Colorado Springs. I moved here just over 6 years ago and have found many reasons to stay.

Welcome to Fresh*Ink and look forward to hearing more from you, even while you're in Michigan.

Unemployment is currently at a 'good' rate of 16.6% locally, but in the last year as gone as high in Hillsdale County as 20.9 % . Simply, I cannot afford to stay here in Michigan without a job, and I have been offered a great opportunity for a new start in Colorado Springs- a job in the trade I am passionate about that I can't refuse. While it will be hard to leave the community of Hillsdale, where I've lived since I was 18, I am also excited about starting fresh in a new place where there will be adventure in meeting people and seeing what the community has to offer.

The Trade of Antiquarian bookselling is a pretty small field and jobs are not easy to find, and I have been offered a golden opportunity to work for a good friend in Colorado Springs, and build something wonderful and incredible from the ground up and frankly, the passion for the books is what is leading me to Colorado Springs. I love my community here, but I there are no jobs, and I have been offered a job in the field which I love, and am passionate about.

Greetings Tim and Brenda!

I have done some community journalism locally for our small paper. Previously written a 'Community Views" column on local issues/politics about once every six weeks with small group of other columnists. The paper called for new writers, wanted 'fresh voices' but they didn't keep the active writers. I have been doing my own version of "community journalism" via my facebook page. Our local paper is small and understaffed and underfunded and not very good with online/social media, so I am glad to see this as an arm of the Gazette, which I have been reading online about once a week. More recently, I have contributed photos to our local paper ( The Hillsdale Daily News ( a few of my photos can be seen here:
http://www.hillsdale.net/multimedia/x1128395899/October-Reader-Photo-gallery) I have been doing this to keep myself busy as I am currently self-employed/unemployed having lost my job of 22 years in Nov.08.
Mainly, I just want to learn about the Colorado Springs area and community and get know some people while things get set into place for me to move out there. I will be visiting the area for about 6-8 weeks at the end of Feb, if all goes according to plan. I did visit for a few weeks last summer and enjoyed the area very much. I will be staying with friends who live in the Skyway neighborhood, and am most familiar with Old Colorado City.

Brenda- Michigan is suffering a massive economic crisis, and Hillsdale County, where I have lived ( just about the polar opposite of Memominee) was hit about 7 years earlier than the when the auto crisis came about, due the loss of the Tool and Die manufacturing to Mexico and China. Last November, I lost my job of 22 years, rather abruptly, after not taking an offer to buy the business where I was employed.

Hi Amy,Tim Bergsten, editor of csfreshink.com here. Thanks for joining our online community. On this site, Colorado Springs residents can post info, blogs/stories/photos and the people, events and and issues important to them. So I hope the site provides you with some info about the Pikes Peak Region. You'll find lots of links to other Web sites. I would encourage you to check out Gazette.com and ColoradoSprings.com. Have a good day and stay in touch.
