Following is the syllabus for the course:

 
LESSON ONE

1. Participants will produce and recognize the hand shapes of the Manual Alphabet.
2. Participants will acquire knowledge of the rules of American Sign Language.
3. Participants will produce and recognize 24 American Sign Language phrases.

LESSON TWO

1. Participants will develop and share their name sign.
2. Participants will produce and recognize signed numbers.
3. Participants will produce and recognize 60 people, home, and animal signs.

LESSON THREE

1. Participants will produce and recognize 60 food and description signs.
2. Participants will become familiar with the linguistic continuum.

LESSON FOUR

1. Participants will produce and recognize 60 question and action signs.
2. Participants will learn etiquette in communicating with Deaf people.

LESSON FIVE

1. Participants will produce and recognize 60 feeling and communication signs.
2. Participants will become familiar with Deaf culture.

LESSON SIX

1. Participants will produce and recognize 60 time and date signs.
2. Participants will become familiar with ADA effective communication requirements.

LESSON SEVEN

1. Participants will produce and recognize 60 health, recreation, and location signs.
2. Participants will pat themselves on the back; they now possess a basic vocabulary in American Sign Language!
