How to BBQ the lazy man's way

Many people ask me as the owner of a BBQ supply store how do I have to patience and whatnot to make good barbecue. I simply explain to them that making barbeque isn't hard if you have the right gadgets! It doesn't hurt to be a male as we guys like our toys. First, I bbq on a wood pellet grill. These are the latest in bbq technology. You plug them in, fill the hopper with bbq grade allnatural wood pellets, set the temperature and walk away. The grill does everything else for you. An auger feeds…See More

BARBECUING DOESN'T ALWAYS HAVE TO BE ABOUT MEAT!

Well, we are on the downside of winter which is good news for you “seasonal” BBQ/grillers! I have to admit, this time of year I tend to start getting Spring fever as well even though I BBQ all year long. This time of year; especially here in Colorado, can cause drastic outside temperature variations. I have already blogged about some easy ways to help maintain constant temperature in your grill or smoker.  One cheap and easy way is to wrap your grill with an inexpensive welder’s blanket.Lately I…See More

HOW TO CHECK YOUR GRILL/SMOKER TEMPERATURE

The beauty of BBQing is that is can be so simple. Although I love to BBQ, I can barely boil water in the kitchen so I stick to BBQing. JAs I have mentioned in the past, the key to BBQing is to be able to maintain a constant temperature in your grill. First thing you need to do with any grill no matter if it's gas, charcoal, electric or wood pellet is see how the grill keeps its temperature. You can do that be placing a thermometer inside the grill and running your grill at various temps.…See More

It is our belief that it is up to each of us to choose what we want to focus on each year.Life gives us so much to enjoy and be thankful for. (One of them is good barbeque!)CBO would like to…See More

Smoking with a BBQ grill

There is a misconception that you need a high priced grill in order to smoke foods on it. Although the higher priced grills such as ceramic grills or wood pellet grills that we carry at Colorado BBQ Outfitters do make it extremely simple with great results, it is not necessary to have one to still make great smoked foods on your deck or patio. The key to being able to get good results from smoking foods is simple. First, you must have something that can hold the temperature constant. Whether…See More

BURN BAN DOES NOT MEAN YOU CAN'T GRILL OR BBQ!!

Colorado BBQ Outfitters would like everyone to know that the recent stage 2 burn ban issued by El Paso County and the City of Colorado Springs does not mean you cannot BBQ or grill at your private residence. If you are within the city limits of Colorado Springs, you can grill or BBQ at your private residence as long as you do not have any combustible material near or around your grilling area. Many people think they cannot cook outside which is simply not true. The ban does apply to open spaces…See More

What is a wood pellet grill?

Colorado BBQ Outfitters would just like to remind everyone that Colorado Springs does allow bbqing, grilling, and/or smoking at residences. Wood pellet grills are the best and safe alternative to gas or charcoal. Wood pellet grills look just like any other grill for the most part. They have a hopper on the side that holds bbq good grade wood pellets. There are many pellet brands on the market but, we here at Colorado BBQ Outfitters, stand behind the Lumberjack brand. Burns very well with very…See More

Okay to BBQ

Due to the Waldo Canyon Fire, many believe  you cannot BBQ at this time. That is not true. The City of Colorado Springs does allow grilling/bbqing at private residences. They do not allow grilling in open spaces such as parks, etc. El Paso County is limited to gas grills only at this time. If you live outside of Colorado Springs, please check with your perspective city fire marshal for guidelines. Please use caution and common sense when grilling. Do not have any combustibles near your grill.…See More

HOW TO BBQ RIBS

Many customers come into our store here at Colorado BBQ Outfitters asking what is the perfect way to BBQ (low and slow as opposed to grilling which is high and hot) the best ribs. The answer to that questions depends on some factors. What type of ribs? Pork babybacks (the best), pork spareribs (cheaper but tends to be fatty) or beef ribs (most people don't bbq these) What type of grill? Gas, charcoal or wood pellet (our opinion the best!) all have different cooking temps and times. Gas and…See More

Spice up your grilling this summer

Still just grilling the occasional burger or steak on your gas grill? Bored with grilling? There are many ways to utilize your grill. Even if you are still using just gas or charcoal. On your gas grill, add some wood chips or chunks to add a smoky flavor. Soak the chips or chunks in water for about 1/2 hour to hour so they do not burn up quickly. You can wrap them in foil and poke holes in it and set it right on your grill grate. If you have dual burners, turn up the heat on the side that has…See More

WINTER COLD SMOKING

Posted on January 4, 2013 at 4:36pm 0 Comments

We here at Colorado BBQ Outfitters never let weather get in the way of our cooking!

Cold weather does not mean you cannot BBQ or smoke your foods.

In fact, cold weather is the BEST time to do cold smokes. What are cold smokes?

Smoking food that has already been cooked or does not need to be cooked involves cold smoking. My personal favorite food to cold smoke is cheese!

As with just about all smoking or BBQing, it is very simple to do. You can use virtually any…
