About Falcon Fire Department
FFPD is entirely comprised of unincorporated areas of El Paso County, without any organized towns or cities within its borders. El Paso County is the most populous county in the state of Colorado. Experiencing a rapid growth rate. The District is gaining an average of 800 homes and 2000 new citizens every year. FFPD is a combination department of career firefighters as well as reserve/volunteers. All firefighters within the department, whether paid or volunteer, must meet the exact same certification standards as well as all other training requirements. This commitment to excellence has resulted in a highly efficient work force capable of handling close to 2000 annual alarms.
All responses to alarms are made within an 8 minute average. The firefighters and apparatus respond from one of three stations. Headquarters, at 7030 Old Meridian Road is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Stations Two and Three are not staffed. They are located at 14550 N. Meridian Road and 15355 Jones Road, respectively. In order to assure timely responses in outlying areas, select volunteers are equipped to respond directly to the scene of an emergency bringing with them medical supplies, oxygen and automatic defibrillators. All volunteers are issued their own protective equipment and will often time report directly to the scene of a fire emergency to provide valuable size-up and immediate protective actions as required.
FFPD has an insurance rating (ISO) of 6 for all properties within 5 road miles of any of the stations and an insurance rating of 10 for all properties outside the five road mile area. The District is supported by a property tax rate of 5.712 mills. The highly efficient combination department saves tax payers 1,000’s of dollars over other full time staffed Fire Districts in El Paso County; an accomplishment the Board of Directors, Administrators and Firefighters are very proud of.
Historical Background
The Falcon Volunteer Fire Department was organized in 1975 and incorporated on March 3, 1977 by a group of volunteers that saw a need in the community. The Department owned and operated the assets of the Department until the formation of the Falcon Fire Protection District, a special district under the statutes of the state of Colorado. The Falcon Volunteer Fire Department (FVFD) is still in existence today as a 501(C)(3) (tax exempt) entity and is a stand alone organization from the District.
