A Legend Passes

It is with very heavy heart, this I forward the information that Mr. Frank G. Montera, the band director for 10 years at Palmer High School, has passed away this week. He came to us from Walsenburg, CO where (as I told him) when I learned this blurted out, "Oh, great! We're getting a potato farmer!" Boy was I wrong.    This man was a ball of fire. We all learned of his passion for his craft - music & teaching music and quickly. He started the band off in marching competitions, in Stage /…See More

70 Years Ago, We Graduated...

Let’s see, what was going on 70 years ago? WWII, of course. You could buy a mans suit for less than $30.00, a bottle of 100 aspirin cost 76 cents, Ford Coupes were less than $1,400.00, ladies nylons cost under a quarter and a gallon of gas cost less than 15 cents and Palmer High School was named Colorado Springs High…See More

Palmer Choir Scrubs It’s Way To Florida

At some time this summer, you probably will need to get your car washed.Over the summer months, the Palmer Choir has many car washes lined up at a couple of locations: the Village Inn at Academy & Austin Bluffs, beginning at 9:50 and at the Texas Roadhouse at S. Carefree and Powers, starting at 10:50. A $5.00 donation is being asked for. Why are they doing this, you ask? What is the money for? Well, I can help out with that. This money is to help with the cost of a trip this spring to…See More

Handicap Parking Offenders, Take Note!

The next time you go to park your vehicle and you see a handicap parking sign and you want to park there, you do so at your own risk. A fine of $100.00 is the fee for parking there. This is not any recent news. It has always been this much. Sadly, there are many who use the placard or plates (because they may be acting as chauffeur), but do not have anyone disabled with them. Others, who are “just going in for a minute” and will be right out, can also receive that $100.00 ticket. It does not…See More

Teddy on Being an American...

In a speech given in 1916, former President Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt spoke of how he believed that “immigrants taking up residence in the U. S. should assimilate into American society as quickly as possible, learn the English language, eschew (get rid of) hyphenated national identities (e.g. “Italian-American”) and declare their primary allegiance to the United States of America”. Later on in 1917 he said, “We must have in this country but one flag and for the speech of the people, but one…See More

"The Producers" Was A Hit...

Posted on February 21, 2011 at 9:50am 1 Comment

I was taken to the Fine Arts Center on Sunday to watch the last performance of the play, The Producers.

As did many, I had a roaring good time!!

First off, this was wriiten by Mel Brooks, so throw out the rule book. Everyone can / could be offended with his work, but that's alright. Nobody need be that serious, all the time. Think back to "Blazing Saddles" or "Get Smart" or "Young Frankenstein". All of these were from the genius mind of Mel Brooks, as well as many others. The…
