Flocked

This was the scene on our front lawn this morning as the kids headed out the door to school. Sometime during the preceding night, a flock of flamingos roosted in our yard.Turns out that the flock was sent to us by someone else. Tonight, our family, in turn, will direct the flock to land in someone else's yard. As pranks go, it's harmless and certainly colorful. It's also a fundraiser for a group of Timberview and Mountain Ridge Middle School students who, collectively, make up a…See More

The Trails of Briargate: Briargate Trail

Posted on October 7, 2009 at 10:30pm 1 Comment

Introduction

At 2.75 miles, the Briargate Trail won't tucker you out, or take you very far. But it is among the more pleasant trails in the area. It offers a mix of shady lanes and broad vistas. An easy walk and an only marginally challenging ride, the trail provides access to parks, other trails, and most importantly, good coffee.…

The Trails of Briargate: Sklyine Trail and Woodmen Trail (eastern leg)

Posted on September 21, 2009 at 12:00am 0 Comments

When we launched Fresh Ink, I posted a comment about my impression of Briargate, where I've lived for 10 years. I noted that, while there are lots of trails in this part of the city, they don't really go anywhere you might need to get to.

So, while on a ride today on one of the Briargate trails, I began paying more attention to its features, and made note of the crossings and intersections it had with other routes, and whether it got me anywhere close to a decent cup of… Continue

Signs of life at medical buildings

Posted on August 30, 2009 at 7:30pm 0 Comments

I don't have any official information, but I notice that during the past month, there's been some actual work going on in one of the two medical buildings recently erected on the SW corner of Briargate Parkway and Austin Bluffs Parkway, to the SE of Memorial Hospital North.

These buildings have been standing empty for months. The presence of crews (interior finish, maybe?) might be a signal that actual tenants are not far behind.
