Randy, I believe it had to be between 1919 and 1921. I could not get a fix on its exact location, but I would think it would have been on lower Ruxton Ave. in proximity to the lower railway station that probably was not that far from where you live.

Mark, do you live where you can see Red Mountain? It was beautiful this morning, totally ice coated. I didn't have time to take a pic, darn it. I'm very interested in your research and like your informative sign idea. My email is rrhodges@hotmail.c…

Thanks Randy. I have a lot of material I did not include in the story that I would be more than happy to share with you. I was thinking of placing an informative sign, with pictures, at the ruins once winter passes. I would think it would help those…

A good story, Mark. I too, share your interest in Red Mountain. My wife and I own Avenue Hotel B&B with Red Mountain virtually jutting up from our back yard. I have hiked to the top several times and am fascinated by it's history. I would like to ex…

I am currently researching the Red Mountain (Peak) restaurant, tavern and Pavilion that was in operation on Red Mountain, just off Ruxton Ave., Manitou Sparings on about 1919 to 1923. It had its own "scenic railway" to take people to/from the peak. I have have found some pictures of the railway, but none, so far, of the structures that were on the peak. They are probably in someone's family album and hopefully they would be willing to share them with me and ultimately the readers.

A NIGHT TO REMEMBER (A PLAUSIBLE REENACTMENT)

A NIGHT TO REMEMBER

(A plausible reenactment)

Note: Please refer to my site to see the numbered pictures.

It was early in 1920. A young couple, Edith and James Livingston, wanted to do something special on their first wedding anniversary.

During their visits to Manitou Springs they had seen the largest electric billboard type sign in the world. It read, in large letters, “RED MT. INCLINE”. Each had wondered what that was all about.
