Can you help find this lost pet?

As some of you know, in addition to managing FreshInk I also edit the letters to the editor. We just received a very sad note from a man in southeast  Colorado Springs who has lost one of his doggies, a tan and striped  boxer. They live near Hancock and Academy and lost their two dogs when his grandson left the gate open July 15. They eventually found one but the other is still missing. If anyone has seen this missing pet please contact me.His letter is so touching, saying they still drive…See More

A dream becomes a passion

It’s the kind of place where most of the customers do know your name and families hang out together. Right in the heart of Black Forest, a small restaurant/bar has seen a great deal of change and somehow survived. The latest change came in the form of a devastating fire. Rudy’s Roadhouse, formerly The Black Forest Inn, is…See More

Too close to the Black Forest fire

Some of our Fresh•Ink regulars know that I live in Black Forest. The beautiful, tranquil and animal-friendly area has been our home for about 15 years. We treasure the sense of community and our neighbors' quiet independence. Now the worst has happened - a fire in the forest.Tuesday night that tranquility was ripped apart by the chaos of the Black Forest fire. We had to evacuate with our three dogs and cat. By now everyone in Colorado must be thinking, if I had to get out of my home suddenly…See More

Let me introduce you to our cast of characters.
My husband "Pops" and I are live on five plus acres between Black Forest and Peyton with our children substitutes, 4 Akitas and 1 truly imperfect cat, named of course, Purrfect.
I grew up in Colorado, he's from Chicago. We love the Broncos and the Bears, music, television and technology.
Some people lead fairly quiet lives. Our lives are usually filled with constant misadventure. I am not sure if it is because we have several dominant pets or because my husband is always involved in some activity but whatever the reasons we are usually in the middle of a storm.
This blog will chronicle our adventures when I have time to file them. Most of the time I will just try to make users laugh.

Over the past 40 years, the Women's Resource Agency has helped 60,000 women and girls improve their lives, saving an estimated $18 million in public assistance as clients have moved from living in poverty to being economically independent.

But it hasn't been an easy haul, says the organization's founder, Marilyn Kastel, a retired college administrator.

"It's been on the brink several times. It's taken a lot of blood, sweat and tears to keep it alive," she says of the…
