Cub Scout Derby Day

The Pike’s Peak Cub Scouts held their annual “Derby Day” Saturday, March 12th at St. Patrick’s Church in Colorado Springs. Derby Day is a side-by-side race of miniature cars made by individual scouts on an inside, gravity-powered track. The tradition was started by Cubmaster Don Murphy of Pack 280C, of Manhattan Beach, California, whose son was unable to compete in a local car competition. The Boy Scouts of Pack 268 held a "Rain Gutter Regatta" at St. Patrick's Catholic Church Sunday evening, September 13th. Each scout made a sailboat at home.
