Small but mighty. That’s the perfect way to describe the St. Mary’s High School forensics team. The National Forensic League’s 2013 National Speech & Debate Tournament begins on Sunday, June 16, in Birmingham, Ala., and the St. Mary’s team is excited about the competition.

High school is about more than books and extracurricular activities for students at St. Mary’s High School. Community service hours are required for graduation and a part of life at St. Mary’s that students take very seriously. So seriously, that even a competitive lacrosse season doesn’t stop service projects.

Summer is a time for trying new things and honing your skills. St. Mary’s High School Summer Sports Camps give kids an opportunity to do just those things.
During the Summer Sports Camps St. Mary’s coaches and players work with young athletes in seven different sports over the course of the summer. The camps started this past week with the Pirate Boys’ Basketball Camp, but camps run through July.

Hard work brings good results. And the 2013 St. Mary’s High School graduating class is proof of that. The 89 graduates in the class of 2013 have earned $9.7 million in college scholarships, setting a school record.
Pat Davis, SMHS counselor, said the last class that compared in size to this year’s class earned $8.8 million in scholarships. She said they are largely merit scholarships, with a few athletic scholarships included.
