        Start collecting your outdated financial documents and bring them to the FREE Fight Fraud - Shred Instead Event and food drive on Saturday, September 27, at the Black Forest Lutheran Church parking lot at 12455 Black Forest Road in Black Forest. Community Outreach

            The 2014 Senior Resource Council Boomers and Beyond Expo included a strong AARP presence.  The Black Forest AARP Chapter along with the AARP Foundation Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) and the AARP Smart Driver Course trainers provided information and literature to many of the several hundred people who attended the 7 June event at the Freedom Financial Services Expo Center in Colorado Springs.         The AARP representatives provided information on the local…See More

         Take advantage of an opportunity to get together with other people and socialize once per month at the Black Forest Lutheran Church, 12455 Black Forest Road.  No membership, no dues, no obligations - just an opportunity to get together and socialize from 1 – 4 PM on the fourth Wednesday of each month. Making a Difference

         Fifteen members from the Black Forest AARP Chapter responded to a recent need to plant trees and grass on acreage devastated by last summer’s Black Forest fire.  The volunteer group furnished shovels and rakes and a large portion of their day to the project.  The work they did should help prevent erosion and the reestablishment of the trees and native grasses for the future beautification of the Black Forest area.  The volunteers were rewarded with a nice lunch and the knowledge that…See More

Apodaca's Honored at AARP Meeting

         The highlight of the April 9 Black Forest AARP meeting occurred when Chapter President Chuck Karlstrum and Vice President Waldo Pendleton presented Les and Diana Apodaca with a 2014 National AARP Chapter and REA Community Service Award.  The Apodaca’s were honored for their exceptionally outstanding service to the Black Forest Chapter and the Community.  A letter and citation, from the AARP National President, cited their exemplary service for the betterment of the community.  The…See More

Safe Driving

         Stephen Blucher, volunteer for the AARP Driver Safety program, presented a comprehensive course on Driver Safety at the Black Forest Lutheran Church recently.  The presentation served as a refresher course for older drivers by emphasizing the benefits of traffic awareness, the adherence to local and state driving laws and understanding one’s individual limitations.  The course also focused on new or changed Colorado driving laws and the reminder to everyone that driving skills can…See More

Free Health Instruction

Free Health Instruction           Paramedics from the Black Forest Fire and Rescue will provide a free Stroke and Heart Attack Prevention and Response instruction class from 9 – 11 AM at the Black Forest Lutheran Church on February 12.  The class is FREE and open to all.         Understanding the symptoms of these types of trauma and knowing when and how to react can reduce the effect of the attacks and even possibly save a persons life.         A weather cancellation will be in effect if…See More

2014 Officers Installed

Holiday Celebration

         The December feast and meeting of the Black Forest AARP Chapter was one to be remembered.  The catered meal of turkey and ham and trimmings was supplemented by many delicious side dishes and desserts provided by the membership.  Preceding the meal an entertaining program of seasonal and classical music was provided by the Fermatas, an ensemble of recorder players.  During the meal a video of the 2013 Colorado state AARP awards presentations was shown.  This program was of special…See More

Five Time Winners

           The Colorado State AARP Office in Denver hosted the biannual State AARP Awards presentations recently.  For the fifth consecutive year the Black Forest AARP Chapter # 1100 was selected the top chapter in the state and awarded the Chapter Gold Cup and $250.  Three chapter members were also recognized for their outstanding and dedicated Community Service during the past two years.  Those recognized were Gwen Burk, Don and Helen Von Gunden, and Stan and Electa Beckner.  Their awards…See More

Honoring Our Veterans

            Shirley Karlstrum presented an exceptional program Honoring the chapter Veterans at the November 13 AARP Chapter #1100 meeting in Black Forest.  The tribute was primarily directed to the 18 chapter veterans, including 2 from WWII, plus 8 veterans widows.   Each of the veterans and his/her branch of service and grade was announced.  All five branches of the US Military were represented – 8 Army, 5 Air Force, 2 Navy, 2 Marines, and one Coast Guard.  A traditional “White Table” was…See More

Food Drive for Black Forest

         The Black Forest AARP Chapter in partnership with 11 area merchants sponsored a food drive from September 7-15.  A total of 112 pounds of non-perishable food and $212.15 in cash was collected.  All food and donations were presented to the Black Forest Cares Pantry.  The project was the chapter's 2013 Day of Service project. Chapter 1100 Weather and News
