For the second year in a row, Silver Key Senior Services hosted a holiday party for clients and this year’s event was even better than the last! Over 500 seniors attended the party on December 15, held at the Colorado Springs Senior Center. Volunteers from Colorado Springs Utilities, the Girls Scouts, and the Senior Center helped us make the day very special for our guests. Bennett’s Moving helped us get all of the gifts to the party which meant no one left empty-handed. The holidays can be a particularly lonely time for seniors so Silver Key works each year to share the joy of the holiday season by reaching out to those who are the most isolated.
Generous donations from committed community volunteers, businesses, and families allowed Silver Key to provide gifts to the seniors who attended the party and our clients who were not able to join in the fun. Performances by the Colorado Springs Conservatory, the Sweet Adelines, and a Barbershop Quartet rounded out the entertainment for the day. A surprise visit from the Grinch was a great way to cap off the festivities and everyone including our CEO, Pat Ellis, wanted a photo with him.
Throughout the month of December, gifts were available for our seniors through the Nutrition Department, Meals on Wheels, Care Management, and Transportation. Because of the generosity of our donors, Silver Key was also able to brighten the holidays for residents of Sunny Vista, Life Care Centers, and the Housing Authority and the entire staff was able to participate and deliver the 1200 gifts donated this year. Our Transportation drivers really got in the spirit of the season and donned Santa hats for a day.
Thank you to our presenting sponsor, USAA, for helping us provide a wonderful party, to all of our community partners and giving tree locations, and the volunteers and staff who gave their time to sort and package the gifts and throw a wonderful party for the seniors we serve.
