History was made on Friday morning, June 3rd, at the State Capitol as Governor Hickenlooper signed SB 197, officially creating a commemorative Girl Scouts 100th Anniversary license plate. Local Girl Scouts, as well as volunteers instrumental in making this idea a reality and Sen. Betty Boyd and Rep. Cindy Acree, bill sponsors, joined the Governor for the bill signing.

The Girl Scout Colorado license plate will be available for purchase without any special qualifications or donations starting in January 2012 through Colorado’s Division of Motor Vehicles. Those interested in the Girl Scout license plate pay a one-time, $50 fee, just like other state specialty license plates, and the cost is added to that of licensing a vehicle. There is no limited time for purchase, and unless the plate is “sunsetted,” by having too few on the active registration records,  there will be no ending date for production and distribution.

More than 3 million active Girl Scouts and volunteers are joining more than 50 million Girl Scout alumnae across the nation in celebrating the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouting in 2012. Official celebrations in Colorado will begin this fall. This momentous occasion provides a unique opportunity to learn how Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.
