I live in outer suburbia, where all the houses are no more than 3 years old. And I HATE our HOA, mainly because they so blatantly play favorites when enforcing the covenants.

This spring, I had a small bare patch in my front yard. I don't even know what happened, all the grass around it was fine. Meanwhile, there is a house on my street that has more weeds in their lawn than grass. I get a letter in the mail that they are going to start fining me $25/day if I don't have my patch fixed in week.

Well, that's fine. I agree to the rules, and I was getting around to it anyway. But if they were fining the other house, those people would be in foreclosure by now!

I just want equal justice for all here in Eastview Estates.

Kinda funny where we choose to live, and under what authorities we voluntarily put ourselves sometimes, isn't it? I have looked at more than a couple nice properties, but walked away because of HOA rules. Your complaints about your HOA, are of course echoed by 1000's of other people in almost as many HOAs. The best solution I have heard yet to this dilemma is "join the HOA board". It is your OPPORTUNITY to "make a difference". ;)
